Sharing the Gospel Through Today’s Missionaries

Outpost Centers International got its name in 1983 from an instruction written by Ellen G. White nearly 100 years ago.

In 1907, Mrs. White wrote:

“Repeatedly the Lord has instructed us that we are to work the cities from outpost centers. In these cities we are to have houses of worship, as memorials for God, but institutions for the publication of our literature, for the healing of the sick, and for the training of workers, are to be established outside the cities. Especially is it important that our youth be shielded from the temptations of city life.” (2SM, p. 358)

This instruction has prompted scores of gospel workers ever since to carry forward this model of working the cities from outposts.

Today, the vision is splendidly realized through the network of OCI ministries. In 36 countries of the world, Christian men and women support themselves through practical skills while operating academies, orphanages, lifestyle centers, clinics, missionary training programs, publishing and media centers, Country Life® vegetarian restaurants, health food stores and bakeries.

Partners in Ministry

OCI is a spiritual brotherhood of ministries striving towards the common goal of taking the gospel to the world. By partnering together, OCI is able to achieve outstanding results:

  • Leadership Retreats Every year OCI gathers its entire membership together for a week of inspiring reports from the field, leadership training and outreach. The resulting fellowship has had a profound impact on participating ministries and local communities wherever the event is held.
  • Multisite Evangelism OCI organized full-length evangelistic series in Honduras, Dominican Republic, and Ukraine. In each location, OCI members participated in over 50 simultaneous campaigns countrywide. In 2007, OCI plans to go to Portugal.
  • Witness For Life With the cooperation of several OCI members, OCI launched a 1-year missionary training program for high school graduates in order to provide the very best education in health, evangelism and Christian leadership.
  • Lay Institute for Global Health-evangelism Training (LIGHT) Recently, OCI began a new initiative that focuses on establishing lay training schools all over the world. To-date, OCI ministries have provided teachers and facilities for these 6-month courses in Portugal and Tajikistan.

All this has been accomplished through a strong alliance with Seventh-day Adventist church leadership. Each member of OCI acts as a supporting arm and has chosen not to accept tithe.

Members pay no dues, but agree to uphold the OCI Membership Criteria and the OCI Membership Standards.

OCI has been a member of Adventist Laymen's Services and Industries (ASI) since 1984.
