The Medical Missionary Training Institute offers accredited courses that train medical missionaries in preventive medicine, holistic lifestyle, and health promotion. We train students both on and off campus (by distance education) and operate Acacia Grove Health Education Center, which is a residential facility that offers various-length programs to the public. We also run community health programs for the Australian Defence Force, public and private corporations, and Seventh-day Adventist churches.
Students assist in the health center and with public programs as part of their practical training. Students living on campus assist with the general running of the institute in the garden, office, kitchen, and laundry. They are also involved in the neighborhood, in the local church, and in giving Bible studies.
This friendly, home-style training center is a model of the blueprint described by Ellen White. It will never expand at the present location, but rather reproduce itself in other communities. Two aboriginal women from Western Australia and two others from a Queensland community have enrolled with this vision in mind. A man from Fiji is also planning to establish a center in his home country upon graduation.
There is still much to accomplish. We hope to build the bedrooms of the dormitory and two massage rooms this year. Next year, with God’s blessing, we hope to open a Country Life Restaurant and Health Food Store in the city of Townsville.
We continue to pray, plan, work, and serve as our dear Father guides the process. There are many frustrations, disappointments, joys, and rewards in this work, but finally when all is done and we go Home, all we long to hear is “Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter thou into the joy of thy lord” Matthew 25:23.
Come join us and the Holy Spirit to “Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled” Luke 14:23.
