Gospel Ministries International

GMI prison ministryGospel Ministries International (GMI) began with a leap of faith. David Gates, president of GMI, felt God’s calling to serve the Davis Indians in the village of Kaikan in the interior of Guyana, South America. After much prayer, he left his job and paycheck as computer science teacher at Caribbean Union College in Trinidad and took his family of seven into the jungle, embracing God’s plan. Little did he know that the organization would soon take the good news of Jesus’ return to millions around the world.

Gospel Ministries International is an umbrella organization for more than 65 ministries around the world. Running on an all-volunteer basis, GMI works with a financial philosophy built on prayer and faith. And God continues to bless the ministry as team members tell their inspiring stories of faith, share the ministry’s needs, and turn to God in prayer.

Television ministryGMI nurtures programs in six categories to further its mission: media, aviation, medical service, orphan care, education, and prison ministry. The most prominent aspect of GMI’s ministry is its mass media outreach. From television stations to radio programs to printed books, ministries under the GMI umbrella reach audiences in 11 languages around the world.

GMI also has the largest suite of airplanes in Adventist mission service, providing medical aviation in seven countries. The ministry offers flight training in two locations and is constantly working to upgrade its planes. Along with medical aviation, many GMI ministries offer other types of medical assistance. Emergency transport by land and sea gives hope to people in many areas around the world. And missionary nurses, doctors, and dentists forge new relationships where the gospel has not been readily accessible, preparing the way for Bible workers and evangelists.

GMI’s orphanages and schools reach young people in countries where children are often less valued. Physical shelter, emotional care, and mental growth are secondary to spiritual encouragement, and the youth respond to the love shown them and are eager to learn more of a Heavenly Father. This same care is what enables missionaries to reach out to prison inmates and their families.
