Heritage Academy Acquires Computers

Posted 9/10/10

Heritage Academy begins the 2010-2011 school year with its first program designed to equip each of its 55 students with a personal Macintosh laptop for academic purposes.

Debbie Baker, president of Heritage Academy, says the primary purpose for the laptops is to give students the tools to excel scholastically and spiritually, within a monitored environment.

Teachers are encouraged to incorporate technology in their classrooms, including the use of special software for image editing, website development, music production, and film editing. Students use the laptops to take notes, research, and work on projects.

Heritage Academy hopes the program will enhance students’ power and desire to learn. The network of Macintosh computers connects teachers and students, allowing users to interact with each other, while avoiding the distractions of unlimited Internet access. The laptops are programmed to reject software installments, Internet downloads, and USB devices that might transfer harmful content, as well as to filter websites.

One of the objectives of the program is to teach students self-control, while providing them with educational tools designed to enhance their learning, and developing talents that can be used for God’s glory.
