A new opportunity opened for Seventh-day Adventist medical work to go forward in the Republic of Moldova after the fall of the USSR. This was seen in a most remarkable way through the establishment of the Center of Health and Preventive Medicine, which was started by Vasile Plamadeala. The center was established with three main goals in mind, to organize a medical missionary school and self-supporting industries, as well as to open a health sanitarium.

Some steps toward these goals have already been accomplished. Two camps were bought in 2002 in Sarata Noua in the southern part of Moldova. A beautiful landscape with green fields, lofty trees, a nearby lake, and fresh air, fascinates visitors. One of the buildings at the camp was remodeled, opening the doors for the Medical Missionary School, which opened in September 2003. It is the only school of its kind in Moldova, and students come from surrounding countries.

"The children and youth, with their fresh talent, energy, and courage, their quick susceptibilities, are loved of God, and He desires to bring them into harmony with divine agencies. They are to obtain an education that will help them to stand by the side of Christ in unselfish service." MH 395.3

The school seeks to fulfill these counsels. In addition to spiritual and health classes, students participate in work programs that enrich their knowledge of cooking, agriculture, construction, and accounting. The school educates students to be physically, mentally, and spiritually strong, preparing them to stand firm in the face of any challenge. Students enjoy not only theoretical and practical education, but they also relish mission work—visiting and helping people in the surrounding villages, holding health expos, and leading youth meetings and revivals. After graduation, most of the students commit their lives to active mission work.

Besides the long-term medical missionary course, the team also organizes one-month summer schools. They teach principles of effective medical missionary ministry and encourage the students to get involved in mission activities.

Currently the ministry’s sanitarium is in the building stages, but many people are already inquiring how they can receive treatment there. The team hopes to open the doors very soon to the suffering and "thirsty" people for health, peace, happiness and truth. The staff’s greatest desire is to praise God through their activities and to hasten Jesus’ soon coming and trusts that God will continue to provide for the construction.
