More than a decade ago the vision of starting a mission outpost in the remote area of Nanyanga ward in Southern Zambia was caught by Johann Myburgh, a young man from South Africa. Johann carved out an existence on a small piece of land in a wild part of the African bush. During his first three years in the area he facilitated the construction of three church buildings and various evangelistic campaigns. He offered general humanitarian aid to the needy as far as his finances allowed and his deeply spiritual influence throughout the area helped to foster a spark of hope among the impoverished and neglected population of the surrounding areas.
Johann died in the early hours of August 2, 2005, after being attacked by an elephant on the piece of land that he called home.
After initially fighting against the idea, the Holy Spirit soon convinced me that my energies were needed where my older brother Johann's efforts ended. I reached Mukuyu in January 2006 where many unknown challenges were waiting.
We conduct evangelistic meetings in our surrounding areas but we aim to also meet the physical needs of our neighbours while doing so. Currently my wife Melissa and I have the privilege of supplying basic medical care to our surrounding communities as well as transport to medical institutions as the need arises.
We are currently in the process of constructing a medical boat that will service villages along the Zambezi River once completed. We have a completed orphan home that can house up to sixteen children, which will commence operation once our growing farm will have the capacity to fully support them. We also actively focus our attention on a small community of expatriates in the nearby town of Siavonga, and we currently conduct weekly bible studies with some of them.
At a later stage we would also like to concentrate on finishing a basic school to ensure the children of the villages of Manyepa and Simasanga have access to safe schooling in stead of having to walk more than three miles through the bush where herds of wild elephants frequently roam. This school property is opposite the orphan home and will offer an Adventist education to the orphans as well as the surrounding village children. We also intend to finish the construction of a senior citizen feeding centre where the aged can get a nutritional meal once a day to contribute to their physical wellbeing.
