Situated high in the Andes mountains of Colombia, just one hour from Cucuta, Fundacion Nuevo Amanecer is ideally poised to offer its students a two-year lay medical missionary training program.
On the farm are grown vegetables, corn, beans, bananas and oranges. Commercial quantities of sugar cane are also grown and processed in a mill to make blocks of sugar that are used by the cafeteria and bakery, and sold on the market. This industry is growing, since it is the only mill in the area.
The bakery offers a number of healthy baked goods which are distributed in Cucuta and nearby villages.
These industries and the Lifestyle Center provide training and labor for the students and cover 90% of their tuition, as well as providing contacts that often lead to Bible studies and baptisms.
The institute has an excellent working relationship with the pastors and leaders of the SDA church. Together with the students, they have an ongoing evangelistic outreach program, which is a requirement of the student evangelism class.
Since 1985, Fundacion Nuevo Amanecer has been the main training center in Latin America. From its classrooms and fields have come the great majority of the workers for the self-supporting institutions and for church Bible work. At the present time they have 72 students enrolled.
The Lifestyle Center has a capacity for 18 guests and is two-thirds full year round. Forty percent of the guests come from Venezuela and within Colombia.
